I made a board game…

…and I don’t mean that I just have an idea for a board game, nor do I mean to suggest that I have published a board game that you can purchase at your local game store. Rather I have come up with the idea for the board game, made rules, assembled the board, cards, and pieces, tested the game a bit, changed some rules, made some new cards, made a better, more permanent board to play on, bought some matching dice, and then tested it some more.

It still needs work.

Then I made a blog.

My experience has taught me that one way to write a story is to begin in medias res, which is the fancypants way of saying in the middle of the story. And, conveniently, that’s where I am. Not at the beginning, where I had the idea for the game, not at the end, where the game is published, but in the middle with an unpolished, but mostly thought out board game that still needs a lot of testing.

And art.

Also, I just had the idea to start the blog a few days ago. Otherwise I probably would have just started it at the beginning like a sensible person, but you know me.

I’ve never really written a blog before. I once tried to get into video game reviewing. Don’t look into it. And in a lot of respects that was a lot like a blog in that I wrote it a lot like the way I’m writing this. I think I rambled more in that though, because I thought it was funny or something? That was a short lived project anyway, like many of my projects. Not this one, though. This one’s a sticker. I can say that with conviction, because I feel like it. This project is a board game. Let’s focus on that subject for the last little bit here.

But really let’s talk about the reason for writing this blog. I wanted to have a space where I could share my ruminations on the board game development process. Do I have credentials? No, not really. Will you learn anything from reading this? Maybe, but it might not be what you actually want to know. Will we have fun? Most certainly not.

If you want to skip the nonsense, start here:

I’m inviting you to join me on a journey of learning as I try to figure out how to make a successful board game. Maybe I’ll discover a community of like-minded individuals. Maybe you’re thinking about or actually working on a board game of your own. Maybe we can help each other out! I don’t know just yet, but we’ll see!

Next time I’m going to actually write a post that has something to do with board game development and/or my board game itself. Come by and check it out.
