In a slump

I have accomplished almost nothing game related over the past week. Work got a little stressful and I got very down so when I had free time it either wasn’t enough to be worth getting into the board game design mindset or I was just too overwhelmed to be in the mood. At times like this I tend to sink myself into video games. This week’s game was Oxygen Not Included: a resource management simulator that requires you to organize things into little well-maintained boxes, which I think is comforting when you don’t have a good sense of control in your actual life.

But then of course it turns out I can’t seem to organize things that well in the game either and then my little peoples end up dead.

Bummer.

There is good news though! I have a couple of small updates regarding Cutthroat Fruit Merchant:

-I have officially hired an artist for CFM! So no more of my silly little basic graphical representations to get us from point to point. Well, eventually anyway. I mean, I just hired him so there’s a lot of work to do. Oh! I should probably say who it is. It’s my good friend Sam Mameli! You can check out his art at the link. He’s really gonna class up the place!

-And speaking of art, I got my first actual board printed for CFM! It arrived earlier than expected! This is just the Main Board for the game and it was printed by The Game Crafter, which does some sweet short run printing work. I’ve found them to be wonderful for printing test copies of games when I feel I have something that I’m ready to commit to an actual board or cards. And I got to put it into action playing a game with my younger sister. It works just like a game board ought to!

-I’ve also started working on converting the current copy of CFM into a Tabletop Simulator game. This would allow for players to test online! So if you have a copy of TTS and that’s something you might be interested in let me know and I’ll keep you in mind when I get it up and running!

That’s all the exciting news for now!
